Sow’s ear

This donor car is a bona fide Sow’s ear, but tonight – after some inspiration from some of my favorite automotive photographers’ Instagram albums – I grabbed a prime lens and stalked the old girl, revelling in her shab.

Cup Day Drive

Things did not go according to plan today: as it was a public holiday in Victoria for the Melbourne Cup, I had intended to pick up a friend for a drive in my recently club permitted Rover P6B, named Juno (check her story out at www.junoV8.wordpress.com), but, as it turned out, she had to go into […]

Accessorising

To celebrate her registration, I ordered Daphne duLittle a special present: a vintage French keychain, with ‘Radio France Vaucluse’ on it. It was hard to choose between lots of wonderful designs, but this one won because Vaucluse is a place name in both France and Australia.

Love the one you’re with

Yes, she’s tired and tattered – life has not been all that kind to Daphne, and she’s more crone now than nymph. But I respect her wrinkles (though others are plotting to botox them away, and restore her paint to good-as-new), in the same way I respect my own grey hairs: we earned them.  But […]

She is Risen: happy registration day, Daphne!

Hurrah and hallelujah, for today my ‘goddess’ has risen from the dead (or, at least, from being a dead weight millstone around my neck)! It has been an epic journey of discovery and renewal, taken over many (admittedly bump-free) miles as we journeyed several times on more unregistered vehicle permits than I care to count between […]

Growing pains

Let me be candid: goddess stewardship isn’t all it’s cracked up to be; right now, it even feels like a cruel joke played upon a mortal by a jokester on Mount Olympus. We are nowhere near being road-ready, with a list of things to be done (and this cracked windscreen is the least of my […]

The planets align

The planets are finally aligning: this week Daphne is booked in for a roadworthy inspection so she can finally be registered in Victoria – please cross your fingers for us! Also, this wonderful world map printed linen arrived in the mail, with which I intend to re-cover the holey C pillars and rear head bumper […]

Now that we’ve found love

While the man about the house goes about making practical changes to Daphne, I tinker with the nonsensical… Originally, I had planned to find her some old French music tapes to play in the aftermarket tape deck, but then I went to the at-home garage sale (in our garage) and found a selection of rad […]

Daphne’s Christmas Parcel

A parcel came in the mail today from dear friends who live interstate, which was a lovely surprise; it contained a retro touring map holder, complete with old maps and region travel guides, and a stacking set of colourful aluminium cups in zipped containers – the shot glasses are probably more amusing than useful, but […]

My blue goddesses

Daphne is the fourth car that I have given a name from mythology, having preceded her with a Lorelei, Circe and the Velociraptor – you may argue that, as Velociraptors really did exist, they’re not mythological, to which I would explain that I named my Magna VRX for the ‘clever girl’ in Jurassic Park, and […]
